Introducing DVA Architecture

A New Era Has Begun...

We're excited to announce a significant milestone in our journey as a leading Cleveland architectural firm. After 32 years of dedicated service under the name Van Auken Akins Architects LLC, we're embarking on an exciting new chapter as DVA Architecture LLC.

Why the Change

Change is inevitable, and it's often a catalyst for growth and evolution. Our decision to rebrand was prompted both by a change in ownership and by a desire to reflect our company's vision for the future while honoring our rich legacy of excellence. Since our founder Jill Van Auken Marous retired in 2024 and passed down the company, it was time to reevaluate where we were and where we wanted to go. With a new name and brand identity, we're better positioned to adapt to the evolving needs of our clients and the architectural industry as a whole.

Welcoming New Leadership

Coinciding with the new transition of leadership, DVA Architecture LLC appointed five accomplished professionals as Studio Directors, representing the firm’s expertise:

• Christopher Dewey, AIA, President

  • K-12 Education Studio Director

• Melissa Fliegel RA, Associate Principal

  • Healthcare Studio Director

• Justin Fliegel AIA, LEED AP, Associate Principal

  • Higher Education Studio Director

• John Kaminski AIA, LEED AP BD+C, Associate Principal

  • Sports and Recreation Studio Director

• Holly Grambort RA, NCARB, LEED AP, Senior Project Manager

What to Expect from DVA Architecture

While our name and brand may be new, our commitment to excellence and client satisfaction remains unchanged. As DVA Architecture, we will continue to deliver tailored solutions across a diverse range of project types, exceeding expectations with unparalleled expertise, service, and dedication.

We're excited to embark on this new journey with you and look forward to the opportunities and challenges that lie ahead. Thank you for your continued support and trust as we embrace this exciting change together.

Embracing the Coastal Grandma Trend: Timeless, Tranquil, and Effortlessly Chic

Our team recently attended NeoCon 2024 at the historic Merchandise Mart and Design Days at Fulton Market in Chicago, where we delved into the latest advancements and trends in interior design. As one of the premier commercial design industry events, NeoCon is a pivotal forum for unveiling fresh ideas and pioneering solutions. While in Chicago, we gathered valuable insights into influential interior design strategies, particularly for an upcoming project with a private client and other upcoming ventures. We also met with this client to discuss their major office renovation scheduled for 2025. During our time at the event, we encountered a diverse array of trends that are shaping the future of interior spaces; from bold jewel tones that add a luxurious touch to interior spaces, to biophilic design elements that seamlessly blend the outdoors with the indoor environment. Let’s dive into some of the styles we love from this year’s convention. OUTDOOR & BIOPHILIC DESIGN ELEMENTS The trend of bringing the outdoors in and encouraging indoor dwellers to spend more time outside is embodied in the integration of planters, natural materials, natural shapes, and versatile and comfortable outdoor furniture. By incorporating lush greenery and natural elements like teak wood and stone accents into indoor and outdoor spaces, designers create seamless transitions that blur the distinction between interior and exterior environments. This approach not only enhances visual continuity but also promotes a sense of well-being by fostering connections with nature.
