NEOCON 2024 Trend Report

Our team recently attended NeoCon 2024 at the historic Merchandise Mart and Design Days at Fulton Market in Chicago, where we delved into the latest advancements and trends in interior design. As one of the premier commercial design industry events, NeoCon is a pivotal forum for unveiling fresh ideas and pioneering solutions.

While in Chicago, we gathered valuable insights into influential interior design strategies, particularly for an upcoming project with a private client and other upcoming ventures. We also met with this client to discuss their major office renovation scheduled for 2025.

During our time at the event, we encountered a diverse array of trends that are shaping the future of interior spaces; from bold jewel tones that add a luxurious touch to interior spaces, to biophilic design elements that seamlessly blend the outdoors with the indoor environment.

Let’s dive into some of the styles we love from this year’s convention.

OUTDOOR & BIOPHILIC DESIGN ELEMENTS

The trend of bringing the outdoors in and encouraging indoor dwellers to spend more time outside is embodied in the integration of planters, natural materials, natural shapes, and versatile and comfortable outdoor furniture. By incorporating lush greenery and natural elements like teak wood and stone accents into indoor and outdoor spaces, designers create seamless transitions that blur the distinction between interior and exterior environments. This approach not only enhances visual continuity but also promotes a sense of well-being by fostering connections with nature.

UNIQUE SEATING

Chairs can be more than furniture – they can be statements of style and functionality. From avant-garde shapes to ergonomic innovations, these chairs seen at NEOCON redefine workspace aesthetics. They blend comfort with creativity, creating inviting environments that inspire productivity and interest.

BOLD JEWEL TONES

Using jewel tones in furniture adds a touch of luxury and sophistication to business environments. These rich, deep colors like emerald green, sapphire blue, and amethyst purple create an inviting atmosphere while making a bold statement. Whether in upholstered chairs, statement sofas, or accent pieces like rugs and curtains, jewel tones can elevate the ambiance of any space.

PLAYING WITH PATTERN

Patterns add flair to a minimalist space, blending visual interest with clean designs. Whether through subtle textures or bold prints, they enhance spaces with personality while maintaining simplicity and elegance.

ACOUSTICAL SOLUTIONS

Unique applications of acoustical treatments that mimic the look of natural materials were seen frequently. These innovative solutions not only enhance sound quality but also add an organic aesthetic to spaces. Designed to resemble wood, stone, or foliage, providing both visual appeal and functional benefits. Their unique shapes and textures can transform a room, creating a tranquil atmosphere while effectively managing acoustics.

(FUN)CTIONAL LOUNGE

Functional lounge pieces were a huge trend and focused on the blend of style and practicality. These versatile furnishings often featured modular designs, built-in storage, and convertible options, allowing for easy adaptation to various needs and spaces.

MONOCHROMATIC, TWO-TONED PIECES

Monochromatic two-tone furniture pieces combine simplicity with striking contrast, creating visually compelling focal points in any space. By using varying shades of a single color, such as light and dark reds or different tones of blue, these pieces achieve a harmonious yet dynamic look. This approach allows for versatility in design, offering a modern aesthetic that effortlessly integrates into both minimalist and eclectic interiors.

INTERESTING TABLE BASES

Unique table bases are now standout features in interior design, offering creative forms and materials that elevate any space. From sculptural metal designs to natural-inspired shapes, these bases combine functionality with eye-catching style, making them instant focal points.

FLEXIBLE WORK & MEETING SPACES

Flexible work and meeting furniture is revolutionizing office spaces, adapting to modern work dynamics with versatility and comfort. These furnishings prioritize adaptability, featuring modular configurations, adjustable heights, and mobile designs that cater to collaborative sessions or solo work. With integrated technology options and ergonomic considerations, such furniture promotes productivity and creativity while accommodating diverse work styles.

ORGANICALLY-SHAPED, MODULAR LOUNGE

These customizable lounge pieces offer a refreshing departure from traditional angular designs, embracing fluid lines and natural contours. These lounges are designed with versatility in mind, allowing for customizable configurations that adapt to various spaces and needs. Whether curving gently to create intimate seating areas or flowing seamlessly to accommodate larger gatherings, their organic shapes not only enhance comfort but also add a contemporary aesthetic to living spaces.
